Nordic Designer’s Aid (NDA) is a Danish non-profit organization that has come up with a very clever way to help people and the environment. They noticed that due to tax regulations, it was often more expensive for fashion designers in some Scandinavian countries to destroy their unsold garments than to donate them to charity, which meant that heaps of beautiful garments were ending up on landfills. NDA realised that instead, there was an opportunity to import these unsold garments to South Africa in order to sell them, and put the profits toward upliftment and education programs for girls and young mothers.
When NDA needed help updating their website’s look, I was delighted to get involved.
The brief was quite simple: NDA had already chosen a WordPress theme that needed to be installed and customised to reflect their existing brand.
I installed and customised a new Premium WordPress Theme for them across 7 pages with 20+ subpages, suggested and created an animated slider for the landing page, and did photo editing for selected images. I used a combination of actual and placeholder content for the initial design and layout, enabling them to update the content themselves as needed. In addition, I also suggested social media banners for their Facebook and Twitter accounts, as they do a lot of their marketing and brand promotion through social networking.
As a small, newly started NGO working to start projects for teenage mothers and young women in South Africa we work on a very limited budget. To find someone like Nadia Burger from Studio Estetika to do our WP customisation and website layout pro bono is therefore what enable us to move forward as an organisation. On long terms this mean that we can do more for the young mothers we support.
Also, being an NGO who is mainly sponsored by the Nordic Fashion industry in Europe it was important for us to get a professional design that will appeal to our sponsors. Nadia understood exactly who we are as an organisation and was able to express this in the customisation. That she is also very dedicated to her work and easy to communicate with made the whole experience very positive – and we are so grateful to have had the chance to meet and work with people like Nadia.
We look forward to the next project!
