As an in-house designer for KAUST‘s Communications Department, I was asked to create a print campaign to welcome the new 2012/2013 student intake.
As a campus located on the east coast of the Red Sea, the University has a functioning Beacon that is one of the main architectural features of the University, and is also the symbol of its ambition to become a center of academic excellence that will help the country transition into a knowledge-based economy, and also benefit the region. It is for this reason that I chose it as the main visual element in my campaign.
For the KAUST Student Orientation Campaign, I created a digital illustration of the Beacon and combined that with a strong purple and brown from the brand’s secondary colour palette. Using vector graphics allowed the large format materials to be printed with a superior quality, and the zoomed-in perspective of the beacon gave the campaign a coherent identity that stood out and attracted visual interest on campus.
