Project Description
Blue Sky Bioinformatics approached me for a responsive Website and Social Media graphics for their new Cape Town-based scientific consultancy.
THE BRIEF
The brief was to create a responsive website that would appeal to lab-based scientists with varying levels of computational ability, and although a clean and modern aesthetic was appropriate, it could be neither cold nor clinical. It had to reflect the curiosity and perfectionism that drives everything Blue Sky Bioinformatics does, ranging from bespoke biological databases and computational solutions for clients, to its independent research interests.
THE SOLUTION
In collaboration with the client, visual metaphors were conceptualised for different aspects of the business e.g. a honeycomb with bees representing a working database, a hermit crab for tailor-made solutions, and a collection of butterfly pupae to reflect different projects coming to fruition. When it came to choosing a photographic style for the Blue Sky Bioinformatics Website, we went with bold macro photography as it offered an unusual perspective for these metaphors, also reflecting the nature of the business.
I am extremely pleased with my logo, corporate identity and website from Studio Estetika. I needed to counter the normally rather dry perception of bioinformatics and databases, as well as to capture the multidisciplinary nature of the consultancy. Everything I wanted, Nadia carefully researched and delivered on, in a way that I found to be unexpected and refreshing. The logo is subtly layered, the business cards are beautiful and the website is bold and biology-driven with every image presenting a visual metaphor for different aspects of the business. The branding style guideline has also been handy for selecting my own stock images for blog posts. I have no hesitation in recommending, Nadia.
